Well, that’s almost it for another year!
I’d like to take this moment to thank you all again for joining me here at Short People, and for those who followed, subscribed or generously paid for a subscription - THANK YOU!
Christmas has sadly been a bit of a write-off for me this year (poorly with flu/cold that has left me feeling very drained - ne’mind, there’s always next year!), but I’ve been using my time being curled up on the sofa to plan out the year ahead for Short People! I want to share as much of my writing with you whilst keeping it varied, fresh and interesting - all I can hope is that it clicks with you!
In the meantime, here are some of the highlights of 2023’s posts in case you missed them.
There were essays…
Letters of Note - Part 1
Earlier this year I was asked by Anglia Ruskin University to join their mentoring programme, which provided me with an opportunity to reflect on my journey; to look back to when I was starting out, having left school in 1991. What advice would I give?
Letters of Note - Part 2
In the previous instalment I wrote about rejection and persistence, and what to do when you keeping getting NO…
Easy, Thyroid(er)

Feminine eyes reflected the light from a monitor. A montage of film and theatrical stills from the career of Sir Hamilton charted his life. With the click of …
Don't Stop Believing
‘Where would you like to be, if you could be anywhere in the world?’ ‘Somewhere warm. Bright blue sky, crystal clear water, a nice sandy beach…’ The on-air Q&A may have been the usual box-tick of mindless radio banter, but Brenda would have given her last bottle of Merlot to be on the receiving end of such a frothy interrogation. Not so much a grilling,…
Self-Parenting
I recently attended a writing session, which served as a break from my current project and a chance to just write… here’s one of the outcomes. It’s a weird, dark little tale, but aint it always?
My ongoing work-in-progress, The Mutual, will continue in the new year…
The Mutual
Here’s a short story about friendships, loneliness and the quest for mid-life happiness (it’s funnier than it sounds. I hope.). Hopefully this will evolve into a novel someday soon.
There were monthly newsletters, released on every last weekend of the month…
December Round-Up
HOW’S LIFE? How are you doing? How are things with you? “So this is Christmas”, asks John Lennon repeatedly at this time of year, “and what have you done?” Alright, John, sheesh… fair question, but still… As is customary in December, I’ve been looking back at the year: What progress was made, what didn’t quite work out.…
