Upon opening the access panel on the back of the robot’s head, the problem was immediately obvious: There was nothing inside that cranium but cobwebs.
No soldering iron was required. A duster? Yes.
A metallic giggle emitted as I poked and flicked the duster behind the robot’s eyes.
There was no memory installed. Nothing to signify functioning intelligence. I could have sworn I had deactivated the power switch. It was all but useless. Still, it laughed.
‘What’s so funny?’ I mused, never expecting a reply.
The laughter trailed off to silence. Then: ‘I have a good idea for a story.’
