A hand tapped him on the shoulder. He turned, surprised to see her there.
He waited for her to speak. She went straight in. ‘Would you go out with me?’
He felt his cheeks burn with humiliation. What kind of joke was this? He glanced around, certain that her friends had put her up to it. He wasn’t going to entertain their joke for a second. Reject before rejection gets you.
‘Yeah, right,’ was all he could wearily sigh before walking away without another word.
