It had barely snowed. Just a light dusting, but that didn’t stop over-excited school kids charging from the school gate, scraping up whatever meagre amount of snow they could muster and flinging it at each other.
In the further reaches of the playground, the snow remained untouched. A boy flung his backpack aside and dropped to the ground on his back; arms and legs wildly flapping inwards and outwards to make a smear of a snow angel.
Within a day, the snow had gone, and the temperature had risen from zero to a positively balmy ten, much to everyone’s disappointment.
